Durian Season

After some time, we went back to DH's kampung because it has been a durian season for the past 2 weeks. DH decided to go back before Ramadhan. We brought the kids along..to show how durian tree looks like. LOL!

Zara helped Wan (Grandma) carried a durian:

With a smiling face...budak rajin :

Khaleef didn't want to feel left out, he helped too, and i'm not sure why Zara is dancing in front of the durians. Perhaps she 's cheering for Khaleef :

DH said "Ni lah dia, budak bandar sekali sekala balik kampung and excited tgk durian.." :

Despite Wan's warning not to sit too close, Zara still sits even closer watching interestingly as Wan opens up the durian :

Conclusion :

Zara & Khaleef had a great time at DH's kampung inspite of getting lots of big mosquito bites.

Zara, Khaleef and DH didn't eat durian.

Me? 2012 marks the year i ate durian a LOT till headache. Dunno what came over me, i didn't ate durian for almost 5 years. But, one sure thing Durian at DH's kampung is the best-thick filling, sweet, creamy and bitter. I prefer a bitter-sweet durian over the sweet one.

Hospitalised

On 28th June 2012, one week before final exam starts:

Zara and I was admitted to the hospital, due to dehydration. We vomited every 3 minutes, can't hold anything down. At least, Zara had some appetite she ate ice cream, chocolates, KFC and jellies but vomited everything out before being admitted, while yours truly lost her appetite.

This is the front view from my bed. Nice mickey mouse wallpaper kan? i was admitted side by side with Zara at the Paed ward. One of the nurse came in to check Zara and asked me "Akak, kenapa warded kat Paed?". Cik Nurse...saya memang mintak Paed ward ni sbb minat ngn decor bilik ni and ade wallpaper mickeymouse! LOL! i  wish i said that, but of course i didn't i am too weak to speak...i just pointed at Zara and said "itu anak akak la". Cik Nurse terkejut, "...anak ke? ingat adik." *rolling eyes...abis tu, why called me akak?*

See the decor behind Zara bed? i didn't have that behind me! not fair!

Kids, they recover a lot faster than adult. See the post. This is Day 2! I am half recovered and was discharged the next day. This girl, was discharged 3 days later. Doctor just wanted to take extra money out of us... caution because she's a toddler.

Last day, posed with baby brother before being discharged.

Both of us got a stomach bug. We were infected from DH who gotten it first (diarrhea for 2 days), followed by Khaleef (vomits & diarrhea), then followed by yours truly & Zara with lots of puking. We were the fallen angels. LOL! both DH & Khaleef recovered within 2 days.

Salam Ramadhan 2012

It's Day 4 of Ramadhan:) Been busy for the last few weeks before Ramadhan - Hospitalisation, final exams, wedding receptions and visiting DH's Kampung. I'll get to that in my next posts.
During my finals, Zara been begging for a rainbow cake and cookies. So, i decided to bake a rainbow for her yesterday.

I should be making this for her, but at daytime during fasting hour...it's really tiring to bake a 6 layer..

So, i opted for this rainbow cake instead...i think i should call it a Paddlepop Cake. Just look at the batter, i love the colors. Really, we should call it a Paddlepop Cake:

Fresh from the oven:

Topped it with Chocolate Ganache:

Up close, when you sliced it, it looked like this:

Zara is happy with the outcome. I thought, baking is going to be fun when my own kids love cakes.

But, mind you not EVERY cake is preferred.

Both dislike my chocolate cake (that's a big OUCH!), hates cheese cake-fair lady cake-banana cake-red velvet cake-oreo cheesecake-fruit cake.

They only love my butter cake. *sigh*

Now, one left on the list is her chocolate chip cookie.

DH and I love murtabak daging. I think everyone does, especially during Ramadhan. It's the most sought after delicacy at bazaar ramadhan. It was such a disappointment last Sunday, when my little brother bought a murtabak which was half cooked-less meat-instead-they filled it with lost of onions, eggs and potatoes!

So, i decided to make a homemade beef murtabak myself yesterday. Guess what? it was a success! Licin pinggan. Luckily, i frozen 4 pieces in case it turns out good.

It's not easy to make a murtabak..the filling was super easy BUT kneading the dough for a soft outer layer is a hardwork. I salute you roti canai and murtabak maker.

*drooling* sebab teringat-ingat
